MMA/Interval Training

Generally Mixed Martial Arts were looked at as a macho and dangerous sport. Over the years it has become more methodical and complicated in terms of the techniques used by those who dominated the cage. Because the participants had to take direct punches and kicks to almost every part of the body the training style forced them to build up their resistance to attacks and to be able to produce a great amount of energy quickly.

I like to incorporate some of the interval training styles to increase cardio performance in a fun way, plus the training drills give you the chance to burn off some steam laying into pads. These drills can leave you exhausted over and over again but pushing through can be the greatest satisfaction. These drills will teach you some similar techniques to Shotokan training in a less-formal setting and are great to practice with partners of any level.

Shotokan

Shotokan as self defense- Generally most self defense practices are mistaken as a sort of violent expression or attitude. In reality most martial arts aim at achieving a balance of power and self discipline to promote peace. The same way you would buckle your seat belts to protect your family, staying well versed in the martial arts gives you that extra layer of safety when the unexpected puts you or a loved one in danger.

Shotokan karate is a martial arts style characterized by an extreme efficiency of movement to deliver a single disabling blow (Ikken Hissatsu). The primary weapons of this style are punches, kicks and sweeps but Shotokan’s kata (form series) also hold more techniques such as locks, throws, disarming techniques and other specialized movements.
